John Mark grew up in Thailand as part of a missionary family.

After attending Texas A&M for his undergraduate work and ACU for his Master of Divinity, John Mark and his family moved to Peru to engage in mission work there. They moved back to the States in 2016 after having spent 8 years in Lima and Piura.

Here at Skillman, John Mark views his role as a Minister to reach out with the message of the gospel. John Mark especially works to connect visitors and new members with the congregation while also involving members of this church in the work that God has called us to here in Dallas. John Mark, his wife Tara, and their four children (Kellen, Parker, Kase, and Mack) joined the Skillman family in November of 2016.

Jake grew up as a member of the church, and was fortunate to be surrounded by a family for whom faith was of great importance. Jake felt the call to enter into ministry early in his life, seeking to find ways to do for others what mentors and ministers had done for him all his life. He entered ACU seeking to learn about ministry and eventually enter into full time ministry. At Skillman, Jake began working as the Associate Minister, working particularly with young adults. Now Jake works as the Teaching and Curriculum Minister, helping to prepare and teach Bible classes and to preach for the church. Jake met his wife, Rebekah, in high school, where they began dating. Dating through their years together at ACU, they were married in 2013. Together, they enjoy reading, going to Dallas Stars games, and spending time with their only “child” (a dog named Bruce Wayne).

Matt is the happy husband of Jennifer and the proud father of Josiah, Caleb, and Mia Joy. According to a saying, Matt has not worked a day in over 10 years because he has loved being a youth minister! Matt started his ministry after graduating from Abilene Christian University (2004) and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to work with the Contact Church of Christ. In the summer of 2012 Matt started at Skillman and finished his M.A. at Oklahoma Christian in the Fall of 2014.

Matt enjoys laughter, sci-fi, and his family. He remains an active basketball player and is an avid sports fan (Cowboys, Mavs, Thunder, and Rangers).

Ever since Matt was a child, growing up in a missionary family, he knew he wanted to pursue the Great Commission. It wasn’t until a summer experience in college that he saw the need for the gospel in our neighborhoods. He is passionate about inviting young men and women into the community of faith.

Ruth Ann has been a Skillman member all her life. In fact, she met her husband at church over 40 years ago. Her family, members of Skillman too, have guided, encouraged, and provided a strong foundation for her faith journey and her work with our community preschool.

Ruth Ann is the director of the Skillman Child Development Center and as she is quick to point out, fell into ministry by accident – no formal training, no clarion call. CDC began as a part-time job and in the course of time, she has been empowered to grow and mature as part of the Skillman ministry staff. And as she notes too, has been the recipient of abundant blessings from our church and CDC community.

Shalene and her husband, Chris, Valentine were married in 2000 and they have three children, Chris-16, Susie-10, and Leslie-5. Shalene is a teacher at the Skillman CDC as well as the Children’s Minister here, spending time with children from our church and our neighborhood. Shalene and her family love to watch movies, play games, work puzzles, enjoy music together and help others as much as possible. Church is the kids’ favorite place to be, and they would live here if they could.

Melissa grew up in Dallas, lived in a variety of other locations as a young wife and mother, and then came back to Dallas in 1985. She was raised in a Christian family, but she came into a faith of her own after some of life’s difficult struggles in her twenties. Melissa came on staff at Skillman in 1993 and has been in the finance office since shortly thereafter. Melissa is married to Steve and is the mother of two children and the grandmother to six wonderful grandchildren. She is blessed to have all of her family living in Dallas.

In 2007, Dale began his first relationship with God through Ministries 101. He had not been to church in 35 years, but was invited by Chuck and Kristin Adair to attend a Sunday morning service at Skillman Church of Christ. He was unsure about what to expect or if he would even be accepted. “That Sunday morning, many came and talked with me and made me feel so welcomed. I knew right away that this was a church that really cared.” He soon had many valuable relationships with people who helped him to grow in his new life with Christ. Since that first Sunday, Dale has been blessed beyond belief and is so thankful to have a church family and relationship with Jesus his Savior. In September of 2015, Dale began serving as the Facilities Manager at Skillman Church of Christ.

Michael found his way to Skillman Church via the Texas Prison System. He’d never been to church before and didn’t really know what to expect. What he found at Skillman was a lot of love and a place to call home. Today, he is a full-time employee at Skillman Church as the Facilities and Maintenance Technician. Isn’t God great!

Sharon grew up as a member of the Midway Hills Disciples of Christ church here in Dallas. It was of utmost importance to her Mom and Dad that Sharon and her 5 siblings be raised in the Christian faith. Sharon was led to Skillman Church through her 2 ½ year residency at Grace Place Properties, The Nehemiah Project. At Skillman, Sharon supports and works with our Senior adults, Re:Generation and Ministries 101.

I grew up in Lubbock where I met and married my sweet husband, Royse Thigpen. We have two grown children, Matt Thigpen and Holly Eaton, and her husband Bryan Eaton and his daughter Sophia. While living in El Paso, I worked at Eastwood Church of Christ for 10 years before coming to Dallas in January, 2000 and joining the Skillman Staff in September of the same year. After a brief retirement I am blessed to be working again with all of the wonderful staff members here at Skillman.
